Walking into Derek Restaurant, the first thing you notice is how comfortable the space feels. The setting is trendy yet simple, making it a good fit for many types of diners. Whether you’re dropping by for a quick bite, enjoying solo dining after a long day of travel, or sitting down with family, the environment feels easygoing and unpretentious. The layout works well for both quick visits and longer, relaxed meals.

The menu reflects the spirit of a family restaurant-approachable dishes that appeal to a wide range of tastes. It’s the type of menu where everyone can find something they like, which is especially helpful if you’re visiting with kids or a mixed group of friends. In my experience, the food feels satisfying and comforting, the kind of meal that makes you slow down and enjoy the moment rather than rush through it.

One thing that stood out during my visit was how convenient the service options are. During my time there, I noticed several people dining alone as well. The setting works surprisingly well for solo dining, especially if you’re someone who enjoys discovering local places at your own pace. It’s the kind of restaurant where you can sit quietly, enjoy your meal, and simply watch the rhythm of the day unfold.

What customers say?

“ I had the flautas... I'm very picky when I eat flautas cuz my mom always made them so good when I was growing up. this place was fantastic. order it with the consume it is so good together!!!! ”

“ This family owned sushi restaurant is a simplistic, undiscovered, inexpensive sushi spot just behind 5 tacos and a beer and Bajavaria. I’ve ate here a bunch of times while drinking at Bajavaria and it’s super delicious and compared to American sushi super inexpensive. ”

- Eric Svensson -

“ Excellent fresh food, very fair prices, and friendly staff, what more can you ask for! Now that I've found this spot I'm eating here about once a week, it's fantastic! ”

- Blue Sky Sanctuary -

“ The fish and shrimp tacos were delicious, the staff was very friendly, and the prices were reasonable for the average Mexican family. ”

- Benjamín Troyo -

“ Best food we have had in Baja! So delicious and the price is amazing for the huge portions! ”

- Jason Byers -

“ We wanted sushi for a change of pace. The makis were delicious, and the poke was incredible. The sauce they use is amazing. ”

- Jesús Sánchez (yisusyelmundo) -

“ I had the spicy fish roll. It was beautiful to look at and just as delicious. ”

- Thomas Monies -

“ This is the fourth time we have eaten here in 2 weeks. They don’t always have salmon as listed in some of the rolls but that’s because they don’t want to serve frozen fish only. How can you beat $9 for a sushi roll!! The seafood miso is great and they also have a few pasta dishes and cooked fish dishes, fried rice (yakimeshi), teriyaki, quesadillas and now they are open for traditional Mexican breakfast. One of our favorites was the sashimi Otaru (curricanes) which is way more than a slice of raw fish. It is kinda like a sushi roll without rice or wrapper but all kinds of other stuff on it. Laraby is a great server and Derek Jr very attentive. Derek Sr and the other chef have made every meal with attention to detail and such a great value! You can get a beer next door at the beer garden Bajavaria to bring to dinner or have a mixed drink or wine from Derek. ”
